If speaking up feels harder than it should

You know your idea. Then every eye turns to you.

Your heart speeds up. The sentence you rehearsed disappears. In English, the pressure can feel even louder. So you stay quiet, rush through the point, or replay the moment later.

That does not mean you are “not a speaker.” It means you need a better place to practise.

01

“What if I freeze?”

Start with small moments and repeat them until the room feels familiar.

02

“My English isn’t perfect.”

Clarity and connection matter more than an accent or flawless grammar.

03

“I’ll be judged.”

Feedback is there to help your next attempt — never to score your worth.

The guest favourite

Open Window: five minutes without a script.

After Table Topics, the Toastmaster opens the room. Someone might bring a word game, a song, a thoughtful question, or something that happened that day. You can speak from your seat, listen, laugh, or add your own thought.

It is a small detail that says a lot about us: the agenda matters, but the people in the room matter more.

Low pressure Guest friendly Human Unexpected

“Warm, heartfelt and friendly. You can feel the ease in the room.”

Feedback we hear about club evenings

Real practice travels. Members grow from a first club speech to mentoring, leadership and contests beyond the club.

Structure without stiffness

A proven method, with room to be yourself.

Free Speakers is part of Toastmasters International, so every evening has a clear rhythm: prepared speeches, impromptu speaking, feedback and rotating leadership roles.

But we are deliberately not a corporate performance club. We are international, curious and open. Difficult topics can be discussed respectfully. Guests are invited in, not put on display.

Meet the club

What the evening looks like

Enough structure to feel safe. Enough freedom to grow.

You may take part, but you never have to. On your first visit, watching is a perfectly good plan.

  1. Welcome

    Arrive and settle in

Meet the host, choose a seat and get a simple explanation of the evening.

  2. Part 1

    Prepared speeches

Members try projects from their chosen Pathway and receive focused feedback.

  3. Part 2

    Table Topics + Open Window

Short spontaneous answers, followed by our open five-minute round.

  4. Close

    Feedback and optional networking

We close with evaluations. Stay afterwards for a conversation — only if you want.

Your simple plan

Try the club in three easy steps.

No application. No preparation. No pressure to join.

1

Tell us you’re coming

Choose a current evening on Meetup, check the event details and RSVP as a guest.

2

Take a seat

Watch the meeting, meet the group and join a short activity only if it feels right.

3

Choose your next step

Come back as a guest, explore Pathways or ask about membership. You decide the pace.

What changes with practice

From holding back to speaking up.

Imagine walking into the next presentation, interview or team meeting with a calmer breath and a clearer first sentence. Not because the nerves vanished — because you know what to do with them.

Before you visit

Questions are welcome. So are nerves.

Check the visit page for current meeting details and links to Meetup and the official Toastmasters profile.

Do I have to speak as a guest?

No. You can simply observe. We may invite guests to join Table Topics or Open Window, but saying “not today” is always fine.

How good does my English need to be?

If you can follow a conversation, you can benefit. The club is a place to practise communication, not prove perfection.

What should I wear?

Come as you are. Smart casual is common, but suits and ties are not expected.

Is a guest visit free?

Yes. You are welcome to visit up to three club evenings for free — enough time to get to know the room, meet different members and decide what feels right.
